Cary Saurage Community Arts Center — BATON ROUGE, La. (THE LOUISIANA WEEKEND) - February is Black History Month. There are many ways to commemorate Black History Month in Baton Rouge. The newly reopened Cary Saurage Community Arts Center is hosting the “Healing History” exhibit in conjunction with Safe Hopeful Healthy BR and Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome. The exhibit opened on the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr holiday, January 17, 2022 and will remain open through February 24, 2022.

Artists featured in the exhibit include Kristin Downing, Randall Henry, Antione Lacey, Kayla Magee, Darlene Moore, Rayne Myers, Ashli Ognelodh, and Mike Weary.

The gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm. There will also be special events throughout the month of February.

On Thursday, February 3, 2022 the “Alicia Olatuja: River City Jazz Masters Concerts” will be held at the Manship Theater from 7:30pm – 10:00pm.

On Sunday, February 13, 2022 from 2:00-4:00pm, the Shell Gallery will hold “Navigating Nutrition and Mental Health” presented by the Maxine Firm.

On Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 7:00pm – 8:00pm, Nyama Contemporary Dance Company will host an Open Rehearsal and Artist Talk.

We spoke with Mysti Byrnes, Director of Public Relations for the Greater Baton Rouge Arts Council about the exhibit.
